Lullaby of Broadway

I wish I was kidding about this, but I'm not.

Yes, it's Infertility, the musical. Specifically, “Infertility: the musical that’s hard to conceive”. I can hear the groaning in Bloglandia from here. However, there is a connection to INCIID...here's part of an article on their website:

OH NO !!! Another show using “infertility as entertainment. . . And coming directly on the heels of the insensitivity of the TV series Inconceivable!!! Yes -- However “Infertility: the musical that’s hard to conceive”, written and composed by Chris Neuner follows the compelling, poignant and heartfelt true-life stores of five “would-be” parents. By telling his own story, a single professional woman trying to adopt and a lesbian couple seeking the perfect sperm donor, Infertility: the musical that’s hard to conceive makes a very good start at removing the terrible stigma and taboo surrounding infertility. If ever there is a chance for those who don’t understand the pain to become sensitized to it, this play just may be the ticket they need. If you want to help those without infertility experience to have just a taste of the anguish, send them!

Discounts are available to donating members of INCIID.

Here's the official website. Anybody living in NYC willing to go and check this out and report back to us?

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I'd never heard about this show. When I first saw your post, I definitely sighed loudly but visiting the website and reading about the author's own struggle with IF, plus their donation of part of the proceeds to IF support organizations, maybe this show will raise awareness about infertility in a positive way. I sure hope so. We don't need another "Inconceivable".

Why does it say, "You've never laughed so loud" on the website? I don't really think it's funny. It doesn't seem like something that should be light-hearted and I don't know how you could really avoid that with a musical. I'll be really interested to see what people who see it say. -Kym

I'm curious to hear what it is like as well. It seems a bit weird as the topic of a musical. I find it hard enough to sit through the school musicals.

Weird. It's like a white comic doing Puerto Rican jokes, if you ask me. Infertiles are not looking to be the object of the fertile world's laughter; on the contrary, we'd like to be taken a bit more seriously, no? I love the humor on IF blogs precisely BECAUSE it's from and for other IF sufferers. Somehow, the idea of infertility as a community gag doesn't really strike me as funny.

But then, I'm not really in a laughing mood.

Scared scared scared. A musical? I wonder if they work shots into the choreography?

I hope it does educate and sensitize people, but don't have a lot of faith that that will actually happen.

Sure. Why the fuck not. While we're at it, let's also stage an Infertility Puppet Show and maybe a cartoon.

Oh so wrong. So very wrong.

Although, attractive, in a train-wreckish sort of way :)

They are obviously running out of material for musicals.

went to see the show, as am here in NYC. IMHO, it actually touched upon the full range of emotions that one goes through when confronted and dealing with IF. But besides all of that heavy stuff, I actually found myself humming a tune or two from the show...and that is what Bway musicals aim to do...
